Biomedical Statistician, PhD

Company: Tibotec - Virco Virology
Department: Clinical Virology
Reporting to/hierarchy: Senior Biostatistician
Function details: This person will contribute to the statistical analysis and modeling of megavariate biomedical datasets in order to support not only the company’s current HIV theragnostics products but also potential new products aimed at personalizing individual patient management of serious viral diseases. In addition, this person will deliver other statistical support (SPC, …). All statistical output will be provided to project teams and departments across the company, from R&D to Business Development. As a member of a small department, the person will interact directly with other departments.
Expectations for this role include:

  • Contribute to excellent knowledge development in the field of biostatistics (modeling techniques, experimental design, …).

  • Devise novel approaches.

  • Acquire subject matter expertise in the field of HIV and drug resistance.

  • Use your statistical expertise to define and execute relevant analyses in order to contribute to research proposals and business development.

  • Act as a subject matter expert and biostatistical resource for the company, consulting and advising other teams in applying the correct statistical methodologies.

  • Document work in a timely fashion in internal reports, patent disclosures and external publications as appropriate.

  • Communicate results and progress internally and externally through oral presentations.

  • Work well independently as well as in a team in a fast moving, research driven environment.

  • Stay for a minimum of 2 years in this job.

Education and qualifications:

  • Post-graduate degree, or equivalent by experience:


    • in bio-engineering, pharmacy, biochemistry, biology or biomedical sciences with demonstrable experience in statistics


    • or in mathematics/statistics with demonstrable explicit affinity for biomedical
      sciences.

  • Hands on experience in data manipulation (SAS, ...) is required.

  • Experience in presenting scientific data (oral presentations, publications) is an asset.

Function details: The candidate will be responsible for the scientific and technical leadership of the hydrocarbons research program with special emphasis on identifying and developing new, advantaged feedstock technology for Dow by implementing innovative catalysis and process technology.


Expectations for this role include:

  1. Demonstrate vision and expert knowledge in the field of heterogeneous catalysis and hydrocarbons processing.

  2. Act as a subject matter expert and technical resource for the organization, in close cooperation with global partners.

Education and qualifications:

  • Expertise in the area of alternate feedstocks (natural gas, coal, syngas technology, etc).

  • Established track record of scientific contributions.

  • Established network in the scientific field of catalysis, preferably in Europe.

  • Ability to provide technical leadership to research teams and groups.

  • Experience with leading complex research programs.

HetSirris “Virtual Engineering”- team bestaat uit een 7-tal collega’s en heeft 3 hoofdtaken:

  • Het ondersteunen, via numerieke simulaties, van het scala aan technologische expertises van Sirris.

  • Het integreren van innovatieve technologie bij de Belgische industrie.

  • Het begeleiden van bedrijven bij de invoering en het gebruik van computerondersteunend ontwerp.


Functie-inhoud:

  • Je voert zelfstandig CFD simulaties uit en gebruikt je kennis van stromingsleer om zowel de randvoorwaarden te kunnen vastleggen en de
    modellering uit te voeren als de resultaten te kunnen interpreteren.

  • Je adviseert bedrijven omtrent de mogelijkheden, het opzetten en evalueren van CFD simulaties.

  • Je voert CFD studies uit ter ondersteuning van het ontwerpen en optimaliseren van producten en processen in onderzoeksprojecten.
    Hiervoor werk je enerzijds samen met collega’s binnen een team waarin er aandacht is voor elkaars initiatieven en expertise.
    Anderzijds heb je regelmatig contact met specialisten ter zake binnen de bedrijven om het project optimaal af te stemmen op de
    noden van de industrie.


Persoonlijkheid en instelling:

  • Je kunt zelfstandig CFD simulaties opzetten en uitvoeren.

Diploma en ervaring:

  • Universitaire opleiding in de Exacte Wetenschappen, bij voorkeur aangevuld met een doctoraat.

  • Zeer goede kennis van stromingsleer en modelleringstechnieken.

  • Ruime ervaring met CFD simulaties.

  • Kennis van Fluent strekt tot aanbeveling.

Talenkennis:

    • Zeer goede kennis van het Nederlands, Frans en Engels.

    • Duits is een plus.
